Traditionally, a Chinese ‘Hermit House,’ as recorded in ancient literature and poetry, celebrates a sense of harmony, tranquility, and inner peace. From an interior design perspective, this house wishes to capture this spirit.

L Hermit House is an experimental project of adaptive reuse, conceived within the disciplined constraints of a 5m x 6.7m box plan stacked over four levels. Within this exceptionally compact volume, the challenge of integrating the complete program of a private residence—from repose to utility—demanded a radical rethinking of space. 




Research: Documenting Traditional Tibetan Vernacular Details


Ongoing Research Trips, 2023 - Now


Every summer, we embark on a quest to the Himalayas to research and document traditional vernacular building techniques. We follow carpenters, stone masons, and rammed earth workers, conducting interviews and documenting their craft. We learn from them, photograph their work, and record the entire construction process. This fieldwork is then processed into detailed axonometric drawings.



First Step Housing, Accra

Searching for a means through which to tackle the poor state of housing In Accra, Ghana at scale, we developed a housing loan product and flat-pack $500 semi-detached home in collaboration with microfinance company, ASA Ghana.
